Bandar Abbas- Zahedan- Quetta- Lahore-Amritsar

on the first of january we finally hit the road. 12h on bus from Bandar Abbas to Zahedan. The friend of amisrs dad organized us some dude who picked us up from the bus station and took us 60 km to the border. Bandar Abbas peopole ensured that it will be for free but the man charged us 50 USD. On the pakistani side, we got the knowledge that no buses r going to quetta that day. Cause- national holiday that mad us already some problems. We hanged at a tea stall for 5 hours, drinking chai and smoking nasty afgani hasch with the locals, until they found a pickup truck heading for Quetta. It lacked 2 passengers, so we got a ride. Me end Joss + the driver on the front seat, 4 dudes on the backseat and one more dude, a goat and a shitload of bags in the cargo area.
Quetta was cold, and no possibilities to continue by train for the next 3 days. So we took a 22 hour bus to Lahore. We were unable to find a cheap hotel there, so we took a riksha to the border immediately. The riksha broke down on the way, so we were late coz the Indian/Pakistani border closes at 3.30 PM. There was only one hotel on the border. A really nice place. Enteryng the room again, late at night, after a nice cup of chai, we heard somebody playing tablas in the room next to us. The moment we tried to unlock our door, the hotel manager exited from the other room and asked us to join him and his tabla master for a late night tabla/hasisch session. After a while, some borderguards joined the festivities and we all chilled until i don't know when.

Next morning we entered India, and arrived in the holy city of sikhs- Amritsar. Free accomodation and food at the golden temple for 2 days, a night out with beer and serbian dude Coja, and we took off to Delhi by train.

Bandar Abbas/Iran

Warm weather at last!!! It is +25 quite constantly during the day and a nice breeze of cool wind during the evenings.

Bandar Abbas is not a spectacular place but it has it's pros- during a clear day, it is possible to see the mountains of Oman situated at the other side of the persian gulf.
20 km away from the city there's an Island called Quesm and it is possible to get there by a continous speedboat service. Cost- 1200 rials. And it is great fun to sit on a speedboat and go really really really fast!!!!!
Also, it is possible to get illegally to Dubai for a tiny price. There's a lot of smuggling between Dubai and Queshm, so u just pay some smugglers some money and they put u down somewhere in UAE. Takes only 45 minutes to get thereby a speedboat.

First trouble with police during the trip- we got arrested coz Joss was wearing a shirt with no sleeves. Just for an half an hour but was fun.

We will celebrate new year on the bus (probably with a few non-alcoholic Baltika 0's, and it is un fucking believable that its comercially available here in Iran) which takes us to the border of Pakistan. We leave 6PM on sunday towards the city of Zahedan, and meet a swedish dude there. He was looking for travelmates trough lonelyplanet thorntree websit to cross the border and we replied.

Finally, after several days of struggle and countless visits to the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, we walked out of it, with visas in our passports. Not cheap (760 000 rials+15 USD for the reccomendation letter, made by the embassy of Sweden) but yet another triumph over the cogwheels of bureaucracy, weird unnecessary laws and cocky embassy staff put a smile on my face.

Now, during the nearest few days, we try to leave Teheran. It is cold here, and me and Joss are still a bit sick, so we wanna go to the seaside, south Iran, city of Bandar Abbas. Current temperature there- +30. We will be accompanied by Amir, our host in Tehran. I got in touch with him trough mr. Piros of Magyaristan, and I am extremely grateful. Amirs family treats us like we would be their own family. Very, extremely pleasant people.

But Amir himself is a crazy fuck with a twisted sense of humour- exactly my kinda dude. We've been chilling in his house, visiting markets, hanging in the city and just having fun, talking all kinds of shit.

Hope we get some traintickets tomorrow. Good news is that public transport is cheap in this country- it is 1300 km to Bandar Abbas. 1st class tickets- 86 000 rials.

Fuck. God dammit. Swedish bureaucracy. IN TEHRAN!!!!!!! I’m fuckin’ allergic to it.

So. To be able to proceed to the Islamic republic of Pakistan, we were forced to get help from the embassy of Sweden in Tehran. I went there, and they kindly agreed to help. First they triple checked the passport, tried to remove the signatures (which are printed) by rubbing paper against it and tried some other weird shit. First then they let me know that the recommendation letter will cost 15 USD. Fuckers. They basically just copied the letter written by the Estonian embassy dude in Tbilisi, put their own stamp on it and that was it. Fuck fuck fuck greedy bastards.

But ok, I got the letters and we will once again visit the embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan tomorrow.

So, after a week in Georgia, some trouble with the Iranian embassy and a lot of eating and drinking, we took off towards Yerevan. An 8 hour marshutka ride over the mountains and trough the canyons reminded me the trip to India 6 years ago. I had not seen the mountains since that and I felt immediately that I am getting closer. Closer to some warm place with mountains and a lot of fun, I had in the memory since the last trip to Asia.

The week in Tbilisi was not easy to survive. Georgian people like to drink and eat a lot. And I mean A LOT. The drinking wasn’t a problem coz I like to drink a lot too, but the eating was. After waking up in the morning (I think it was for the first time in my life I woke because of an urgent need to go to the toilet and shit), they served a full three course meal (which of course was delicious, and I fuckin’ love hatsapuri and adzika) and I never got out of the house before I had poured down at least 4-5 shots of dzadza (nice Georgian vodka made of grapes). Walking on the streets wasn’t so easy- I was always stuffed with food and a bit drunk. Balance and coordination problems were usual during these days. And in the evening, we repeated the morning drill, only with larger amounts of tasty Georgian food and a lot of more dzadza.

In Georgia, I got sick as well. Throat problems, nausea and dizziness. Probably caused by the cold weather and lack of warm clothing. Local medicine- a lot of vodka. I liked the medicine a lot.

Nika is the coolest small dude I’ve ever met. Total chillmaster and a little hooligan. Our host family was tired of his pranks, so I and Joss considered to include him in our travel plans and taking him with us to India and Australia :)

Tbilisi & Georgian hospitality

The first thing I did after arriving in the railway station of Tbilisi was, to try contact Joss. He arrived the night before and we were supposed to meet to team up at last and continue the trip together. But the fucker did not want to show himself. I waited for a long time in the subway station nearby and after 2 hours he appeared, accompanied by a policeman. I immediately thought- damn, this dude is fast. Less than 12 hours in Tbilisi and already in trouble with the police. But the policemen in this town turned out to be extremely nice and they were just trying to help Joss to find the way.

So, we went to the house of my fathers friend- Ruben. My dad used to make cognac business with Ruben during the eighties and is considered to be a member of Rubens family. And so was I. The people greeted me in a way they greet only family members.

And then we started eating and drinking.

In the airport in Kiev, I met a German soldier. He said that he is working at the border of Abkhazia and Georgia as an UN observator. He was a cool dude. He knows how to drive a tank and how to fly helicopters and stuff. We had a nice conversation about formation flight with old Sikorskys and the political situation in Abkhazia. He also gave me a ride to the city from the Tbilisi airport. Thanks a lot man!!!!!

I decided to take the plane- Odesa-Kiev-Tbilisi because the boat company that was supposed to bring me from Odessa to Poti in Georgia, was weird. The manager I met, did not know himself, when exactly the boat was leaving. So, to be able to stay three more days in Odesa and chill with Tolik instead of sitting on the boat, doing nothing, I chose to break my goal to travel from Estonia to India without flying. And it was totally definitely worth it.

For several nights, we stayed up late with Tolik and just talked. About stuff. Was cool. Because he is me and I am him. It felt really really bad to leave.

3 days of heavy party in Lviv.
reunion with most of the dudes from summer and many many new nice people. A night in a 3 floor underground club- dancing and drinking until unconciousness, chilling in cafes, a non professional theatre show about the Sherlock Holmes of Lviv, and a whole day of heavy hangover and chilling with Mariika in the student dorm.
I had such fun and met so many new nice people that i'm still kinda dizzy. I love Lviv and the people I know there and for sure, I will return to see more and party heavier. Thank u Lviv people. I will fuckin' miss u A LOT!!!!

Back in Ukraine

Lviv- one of my all time favourite cities.
Nice to be back. Nice to surprize the dudes I met here in the summer :P

I left Krakow few days ago, to enjoy the Hospitalityclub possibility in the city of Rzeszow, 2 hour trainride away from Krakow. My first train experienxe in Poland. Comfy but rough ride- i like.
I arrive and meet one of the dudes, living in my destination apartment, in the centre of the city. Cool student flat with student beer, student vodka and a student rabbit.

I continued in the morning towards the border of Ukraine. With the help of 3 drivers I ended up in the city of Przemysl. The last driver, a young lad, drove me to the local bus station, and explained that the ticket to the border is 2 zloty and its easyer to ride the bus. So i took the bus. I was tired of walking, coz the 2 other drivers had put me down in the middle of small fuckin' cities, so i had to walk for an hour to find a suitable place for hitchhiking.

Border of Poland/Ukraine was a fucked up place. It was a border with the possibility to pass for people without cars. Polish border was easy for me- 2 lines: euro and non euro citizens. Getting trough took like one minute. Walking trough the no-man's-land, seeing people taking off packs of cigarettes around their bodies and legs, babushkas with a shitload of cartons in their bags, throwing them over the fence, another one catching on the other side- and all that already in the no-man's-land. Then- ukrainian border control- queue 50m, tiny door, 2 people checking the pasports. People struggle and shout. Standing in the line, thinking about ukrainian domova kuhnja and beer, i spotted some Polish girls, 10 meters closer to the passport check, staring and smiling at me. As I already experienced in Krakow, Polish girls smile a lot. Like for real- A LOT. Boyko explained that its normal. The reasons for that are maybe not quite appropriate to explain here. But he said that its nice to smile back, which I did. In the no-man's-land between Poland and Ukraine. So, after a while, they waved, and told me to move closer. They were already in the corridor made of iron pipes on both sides, so they made some space in front of them, and i pushed myself in. Some nasty looking dudes were protesting, but the girls shouted some filthy polish words and all was cool. So, my turn to show the passport. The border control dude looked at it, asked his mate something, and they checked it out together. Looking pretty confused, he gave me an immigration card. I filled it out. That was the part which I was afraid for- I had to remove my gloves to be able to use the pen. And ofcourse, immediately the border dudes started to make interesting comments about my nailpolish. But at least- they did not threaten me with nasty punishment or some shit. And ofcourse, they wanted me to write an address of residence in Odessa, which I put as destination. I just tried to explain that i will find a hotel after arrival and it was cool. So, at last- back in ukraine.Thanks to the polish girls, i passed the border an hour faster than i had expected. Thanks polish girls!! It was fuckin' freezing out there.

I tried to find a marshutka going to Lviv, so I asked some babuskas if there was one going soon. They said yes and informed me also about the cost of the ticket- 10 grivnas. Immediately some old fat dude, standing 20 meters away, started to wave with hands at me and his dirty ziguli so I approached him just because of curiosity. He explained that he was ready to take me to Lviv for 180 grivnas. I smiled, told him that im not stupid, and that I could buy tickets for that amount of money to all the babuskas wayting for the marshutka. The clever businessman made a stupid face and took off with his ziguli.
Actually, I was tempted to take a roadtrip with this guy, but the price was absolutely ludicrous.

So I took the marshutka to Lviv, met Jenjyk and some other people I already met in the summer. He fixed me accomodation at his sisters flat, which is full of extremely sweet Ukrainian girls.
Jenjyk and his mates persuaded me to stay here for a day longer as I had planned, to experience a crazy party. So, im waiting for tonight to taste the local weed for the first time :P
